I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I love this time of year. There’s nothing more restorative for me than relaxing with family and preparing for a new year. I ambitiously decided to start this powder room project a week ago but it’s since moved to the back burner since I’ve come down with a post-Christmas cold.
So, since I can’t physically work on this project, I’ve created a mood board to help guide my design process. This mood board is actually more of a concept board, since I’ve actually purchased or already have almost all of the items.
Why create a mood board?
Creating mood boards before taking on a project helps curate the vibe of the room and can help you decide what items fit best together. I did this with my living room and office before we moved in and it was also incredibly helpful to help me budget for what I needed.
Powder Room: The Vibe
Our powder room is the most abandoned room on our main floor. I haven’t touched it since we moved in last February. I’m embarrassed to say there’s a print (the Monsterra leaf print pictured above) that’s been sitting ON THE FLOOR for well over six months. Poor room.
My inspiration for this room is the Miami resort we recently stayed at, 1 Hotel South Beach. The resort was beautifully decorated with a clean, natural vibe and sustainable materials. I want to use natural textures, wood grains, greenery and warm, glowy light.
Powder Room: The Elements
- Dark cabinets – In current room
- Granite countertops – In current room
- Creamy white walls
- Cork wallpaper for feature wall
- Gold hardware
- Gold faucet – typically don’t shop Amazon but found this for $200 less than on Kohler
- Round gold mirror
- Two-armed globe sconce
- Dark, woody candle
- Jute rug
- Zinc plates
Our powder room cabinets are a dark walnut with the granite countertops pictured above. I’m purchasing new brushed gold hardware and faucet to bring new life to them. I plan to paint the walls a creamy white, and the vanity wall will be wallpapered with this cream and gold cork wallpaper.
I can’t wait to replace the current chunky silver vanity mirror and sconce with a sleek round gold mirror and a two-armed globe sconce. Other elements I plan to bring in are woody candles, a jute rug, green plants and a feature element like the zinc plates above.
Stay tuned for the progress!
