Let me start off by saying I’ve never once gotten a gift I wasn’t delighted to receive. I usually feel like I can’t express enough how grateful I am for a gift, so much that I often feel guilty upon receiving them. (That’s a story for my therapist.)
That being said, getting gifts for your home and/or choosing gifts for others’ homes can be awkward. Everyone has different styles so it’s best to choose something practical, but not too practical that it’s offensive…
For this week’s Picks, I’ve rounded up some practical and aesthetic home gifts that people will actually want.
Dinnerware gifts
It’s likely that someone in the household cooks. And even if they have everything they could ever need for their kitchen, new serveware is always practical and cute. Dinner and drinkware are great gifts to make sets with. Take some cute dish towels, specialty hand soap and a candle, package them up and you’ve got the perfect gift. Or, pair them with these Crate and Barrel popcorn bowls and some specialty kernels and seasoning.
Drinkware gifts
Okay if no one on your list cooks (my condolences) they must drink. These would make the cutest sets for wine or cocktail lovers. I have these Hydroflask wine glasses and they keep wine cold – even in humid temps – for hours! Pair them with these colorful new Hydroflask insulated totes for the perfect picnic/roadtrip buddy. Or, get these instagram-worthy wine glasses with a one-touch wine aerator.
Home decor gifts
Everyone is crazy about the $200 Barefoot Dreams blankets, but the OG cozy blankets live at Pottery Barn. They’re half the price and come in so many gorgeous colors and textures. My entire extended family has several of these blankets and we all love them. For a personal touch, add a photo and a memento (petals from a wedding bouquet?) in these glass frames. Or pick out one of these travel candles from Maui, Italy or Santorini.
Home tech gifts
It doesn’t matter if your recipient already has any of the tech gifts below, because they can always use another. These Sonos bluetooth speakers are lifechaging. We have two speakers and a TV beam at home and all three can pair and are controlled by an app on your phone. We also love our Hue lights, which we have back-lighting our TV and as can lights in our basement. They light colors are controlled by an app on your phone and multiple lights can pair together.
