Now that Thanksgiving is over it’s officially acceptable to start decorating for Christmas! (To be honest I don’t know why some people get so unhinged about this, I put up my tree the week before Thanksgiving and I’m #proud.)
Anyway, I did wait for it to be socially acceptable to share my decor, so I’ll be doing a few posts on the blog this week to share all of my Christmas transformations. In this post, I’m sharing just one small space in my apartment and its before & after decor.
A Simple Decor Transformation
I know some of my friends struggle to transform a space for Christmas, usually because they assume they either have to spend a ton or put in a ton of work. This isn’t the case! I’m sharing easy ways to make small tweaks that make your space instantly festive.
VIDEO: I recorded an Instagram story about this so be sure to check it out in my Instagram highlights @balancebyjordie.

Here is the space I’m working with. This is a small table in the corner of our apartment living room that is purely for decoration. I actually used this as a table in my last apartment but now we use it as a display piece since we use our bar — ok mainly our couch — for meals.
The art hanging above the table is a piece I got to display last Christmas but I loved it so much I kept it up. It’s from a Christmas shop in Amana, Iowa. I think it could be an easy DIY if you could find the right sized sticks.
Christmas Transformation
And here is the same space transformed for Christmas. The table still has the same concept with the runner, picture frames and candle I had previously, but the few small changes transform the space into a warm Christmas nook.
The garland really anchors this design and the room itself, since it extends the presence of the Christmas tree. Some gold accents among the garland gives it depth. And the tall candles fill the space better than the shorter vases I had here previously.

- Table runner, unfortunately mine is sold out, it’s also Target. I love the gold checkered pattern on this one, though.
- Iron candle holder, the one I have is from Target last year. This one is similar but only four prongs. I hope Target restocks! If you want six prongs but can’t find one, six matte black candlesticks would give the same look.
- Garland, 6 ft. Mine is basic artificial garland but it would also be fun to use eucalyptus or one that’s painted gold. Just make sure you can easily bend it to fit around your accents.

- Gold tree accent: Mercury glass or hammered glass
- Gold ornaments for accent
